Joanne Wagner posted a bunch of pictures from the Fremont Flatlanders 2012 Castalia Metropark Hike & Bike! The weather was absolutely beautiful. People hiked, people mountain biked, there was even group of 10+ riders that that did 50+ miles of road riding at 10am.

He stopped in on Wednesday November 7th on his way from Los Angeles to Maine! So far he estimated he has somewhere around 5,000 miles though he said he's not keeping track. He has been on the road for ten months and will be braving a late fall and maybe even some snow in the coming month on his way to maine.
We get anywhere from 100-200 tourers a year stopping in our Elmore and Fremont stores and I suspect we miss just as many who ride by on off hours.
Some following the ACA (Adventure Cycling Association) routes including the North Tier or the new Underground Railroad, some just stumbling on the now 40 miles of continuous trail (part of the NCIT / North Coast Inland Trail) that runs right in front of our Elmore store. Most come through in the summer months, June to August but we do get our occasional fall and even late fall tourer.
Our friends Les and Linda just got back from Ft. Collins Colorado. Couldn't resist posting this pic. She and her purple Electra Townie Ballon 8D bike are quite the picture. Also, New Belgium is quite the beer. :)
One of the top stories making the rounds this week.
http://www.npr.org/2012/10/09/162586325/instead-of-surgery-man-pedals-off-the-pounds
"A lot of Americans are struggling to lose a whole lot of weight, and they try all kinds of crazy things.
Ernest Gagnon — a man from Billerica, Mass. — decided to shed pounds by getting into the often intense, high-adrenaline sport of cyclocross: racing road bikes on obstacle courses.
Two years ago, Gagnon tipped the scales at 570 pounds. He was depressed and embarrassed to leave the house.
"Being as big as I was, I really felt like I didn't belong anywhere," Gagnon says. "I was stuck in my house for almost 10 years, just going to my work and back."
Back then, Gagnon's diabetes was getting more serious. He was losing the circulation to his legs, and his doctors were talking about gastric bypass surgery.
Then, some sort of a switch flipped in his head and Gagnon decided he was going to race bikes, something he'd wanted to do since he was a kid.
Gagnon contacted Cosmo Catalano, a cyclist from Hartford, Conn., on Facebook, and asked if he wanted to go for a bike ride.
"He's like ... 'by the way, I ride kind of slow ... I'm 500 whatever pounds,' " Catalano says. "I [said] ... 'OK, I can deal with that.' "
This is how hundreds of New England cyclocross racers met Gagnon."

As February draws to a close, Spring, with the promise of better weather and warmer temperatures, gets closer. If you haven’t been on your ElliptiGO since late fall, consider bringing the GO down to your local bicycle shop to have them give it a tune-up. You'll want to make sure the cables are functioning correctly, all bolts are securely fastened, and that the chain is lubed and ready for smooth riding. Even better, if you have been lucky enough to ride outside through the winter, it's a really good idea to take the bike down to your local store for a tune-up or at the very least give it a thorough cleaning to get the salt, sand, and road debris off and help keep your ElliptiGO running smoothly.
If you have been enduring the pains of winter indoors on a trainer, it would be a good idea to check out your tires prior to jumping on the road again. Although your ElliptiGO tires are good for several thousand miles, if you have been riding all year plus using the indoor trainer heavily, it may be time for replacements. Take a good look at both tires, but especially the rear for any excess wear or sidewall damage. You want to make sure before you start commuting or training outdoors again that you do not wind up with a flat due to a worn rear tire. Many times, if just the back tire is worn, you can simply rotate your front tire to the rear and just get one replacement tire instead of buying two new ones.
If you do need to purchase a new tire, we offer them on our webstore or your local ElliptiGO/Bicycle retailer will be able to assist you.
Remember to pump up your tires to 85-90 PSI before every ride to keep the tires performing optimally and to reduce your chance of a flat tire. And if you have any questions or concerns, please contact our customer service department at service@elliptigo.com. We're happy to help you have the best riding experience possible.
Happy Riding!
