Saturday's Ottawa national wildlife refuge ride

Some of the Fremont Flatlanders bicycle clumb members and I (including Dan Willis and Dan Waggoner) headed out to the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge Saturday afternoon to ride and make some beard-cicles in the cold before the sun went down.

A hilight on our ride was a mile or so of some of the best beach riding I've ever done and I have done a lot of beach riding as of late. The sand seemed to be frozen and we road it as easily from the waters edge to the grass line as one would ride down the sidewalk.

What's more I've never seen Lake Erie so calm. Barely a ripple as small patches of ice began forming out on the lake.

Plenty of deer, waterfowl and at least four different eagles were spoted including several nests.
